Masterpieces of Craftsmanship
In our custom shop in Hamburg, we create hunting rifles of the highest quality. Crafted by hand, with utmost care and an uncompromising commitment to detail and precision. At our workbenches, decades of experience come together every day.
Each of our firearms is made in-house, from the raw blank to the final inspection. We rely on traditional handcraft, supported by precise, often custom-built tools and fixtures that ensure the highest level of quality, from the first fitting to the smooth break of the action.
We take particular pride in the harmony of function and form. Mechanical perfection, outstanding performance, and artisanal aesthetics are not opposing goals for us, they are inseparable.
We believe that true quality can only emerge when time, craftsmanship, and passion are allowed to unfold. That’s why we don’t work in series. We build individual pieces and give each one the attention it deserves.
We look forward to welcoming you in Hamburg.
Heritage. Craftsmanship. Dedication.
The Beginnings
Otto Weiss and Gerhard Hartmann completed their gunsmith training in the 1950s. Weiss in Suhl, Hartmann in Hamburg. While Weiss deepened his knowledge in Switzerland and England, Hartmann gained experience in Austria.
Foundation and Early Development
In 1963, they met while working at a renowned gun shop in Hamburg and decided two years later to begin crafting bespoke hunting rifles together. Their small workshop quickly grew into a respected manufactory for custom-made firearms. In 1970, they completed their first entirely in-house production: the Heeren falling-block rifle.
Expansion and Innovation
In the late 1970s, the company acquired property in Hamburg-Rahlstedt, offering space for a larger workshop and an underground 100-meter shooting range. By 1980, Hartmann & Weiss became the first company in post-war Germany to produce the original Mauser Magnum and short action systems using traditional techniques. Around the same time, production of the Hagn falling-block system also began.

Growth and Product Expansion
As demand increased, our team grew to include six skilled gunsmiths. From the mid-1980s, the product variety was expanded to include side-by-side shotguns in various calibers, over-and-unders, and double rifles. Since 2007, Hartmann & Weiss has also been producing Side-Lock Break-open singleshot Rifles with ejector.
Our Team, Our Philosophy
Our team of experienced gunsmiths continues to craft exclusive hunting firearms with the highest level of artisanal precision. For over 60 years, we have stood for quality, tradition, and bespoke solutions and that will remain our guiding principle for the future.
